Description
Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shriaz is the ultimate expression of our winemakers' masterful skills and showcases the finest individual parcels of fruit from selected vineyards. The 2001 Platinum Label Shiraz is a trophy winning wine sourced from the cool climate Adelaide Hills in South Australia. Warm, dry conditions prevailed in 2001, enabling the ideal development of varietal fruit characters. This wonderfully vibrant Shiraz was sourced from a single vineyard at Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills which offered intense, rich flavours with signature notes of pepper and spice on the nose and palate. After harvesting and crushing, the fruit was fermented in small batch open fermenters, with time on skins varying from seven to fourteen days. Earlier pressings completed their fermentation in the barrel with the balance transferred to oak after fermentation was complete. The wine was matured for 20 months in new and one year old French barriques, from a variety of forests and with a combination of toast levels, to give further depth and complexity while enhancing the elegance of the fruit. The 2001 Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz is deep purple in color with aromas of spice, black pepper, blackberry and dark chocolate and has been bottled under screwcap to preserve the style of the wine and to ensure the quality is maintained. This wine will display intense frui in its youth or will show soft integrated characters if cellared over the next decade.
